The time it takes to charge an electric car can be as little as 30 minutes or more than 12 hours. This depends on the size of the battery and the speed of the charging point.A typical electric car (60kWh battery) takes just under 8 hours to charge from empty-to-full with a 7kW charging pointMost drivers top up charge rather than waiting for their battery to recharge from empty-to-full. For many electric cars, you can add up to 100 miles of range in ~35 minutes with a 50kW rapid charger. The bigger your car’s battery and the slower the charging point, the longer it takes to charge from empty to full.

Charging prices may vary from country to country. But standardizing it into SG dollars, If electricity costs $0.30 per kWh and the vehicle consumes 27 kWh to travel 160 km, the cost per km is about $0.05. If electricity costs $0.30 per kilowatt-hour, charging an EV with a 320-km range (assuming a fully depleted 54 kWh battery) will cost about $16 to reach a full charge.

Most EV manufacturers recommend that you stick to between 20-80% battery charge, so based on your driving habits, you’ll want to plug in every three days or so.

The Government targets to deploy 60,000 EV charging points across India by
2030, of which 40,000 will be in public carparks and the other 20,000 in private premises.

$2,000 and $10,000 per Level 2 charging station

Unlike petrol or diesel pumps, which have standardised nozzles for all types of vehicles, electric vehicles have different types of chargers for various types of vehicles.Usually, the number of chargers used to charge a 2 wheeler EV can be classified into 2 categories and the number of chargers used to charge a 4 wheeler EV can be classified into 3 main categories.

    1. DC Charge

The fastest way to charge your EV – at a public DC Fast charging station with power from 50kW and above. With this method you can top up your battery from 20 to 80% in approx. 40 minutes. There are also some ultra-fast charging stations that already provide more than 150kW.
